My wife and I were driving to a Not from Brooklyn gig once, and she, from the passenger seat, yelled, “Jesus!” due to something about my driving that startled her. I said, “Jesus? Where? If you were Jesus, and you decided to come back to earth, why would you choose to make your first appearance in Newfield, NY?” She then told me about and showed me photos of how Jesus has appeared on people’s toast before. I thought that was so funny that I told the band this story. Later, when I asked whether this song could be included on the album, they said, “Yes, but only if we can title it Jesus Toast,” by which they referred to it thereafter. Part of me really thought they were going to keep that name on the album (and I’m glad they didn’t.)
