This is the only ballad on the album. I was glad for it to be included because the only other version is on my acoustic guitar album, “Just the One of Us”. (As is “What We Do Sometimes,” and the bonus track “Funkination.”) My family already knows this story, so it’s no secret now. But this tune was written on a hot summer night when we had out of town guests staying with us and my gig had gotten cancelled at the last minute. Since I was feeling the need for seclusion, rather than telling them, I loaded up my gear, pulled my car out of the driveway and parked it under a nearby streetlamp, and started to compose. A few hours later when I came home, they asked how the gig went. I said, “It was very quiet.”
